Would like to try making bird whistles. How to make a hollow bird structure was the biggest challenge (can't draw a blank). Tried using clay slices, tried direct hand kneading, and finally succeeded once: moulded a trapezoidal cup with a wide top and narrow bottom from clay slices, then closed the mouth of the cup, then cut out the basic shape of the bird with a knife, and finally shaped it.
But at each step I couldn't whistle, and I never understood why, guessing it was because the thickness wasn't even or the hole was too big or not hollow enough, etc., only to end up with a crack in the ground when I was filling it with water when I realised that the time bird was cracked. The result was a birdie with no sound. I do like the glaze though, because I worked hard to carve out the bird's feather pattern, and the glaze turned out to be just right to portray the surface texture nicely. All in all I'm happy with the overall shape colour etc., it's a shame the whistle didn't work out.
Then there was the ring attempt, which turned out to be unbandable haha.
The little fish wind chimes are made a little thicker, so they weigh a little too much.
