23 FFM05 ROTATE

Festival of Fast Making
05–10–2023
Inspired by the traditional Chinese waist fan, when the paper is rotated, due to the direction of the crease, the paper is rolled up when it is vertical, and the paper is unfolded when it is horizontal.

In making this structure I have been concentrating on how to make it possible to flatten and curl the paper sheet by rotating it. Making the paper only have multiple creases that repeat horizontally in the same direction is the key, then making two clamping tabs (using rolled out paper rods to do this) and then punching holes in the centre of the paper and in the same place as the two rods and threading in wire to make a pivot for the paper to rotate in the gap between the two rods.

The downside of this piece is that I forgot to consider saving a place for my light bulb, which resulted in the main structure not being able to add light well enough to make it glow and achieve the effect of producing different light at different angles after the main structure was made.
